Journalists and mojo: there is a way to exist even without publishers.

I was lucky enough to meet in person the friend and eminent professor of Ithaca College Anthony Adornato. The teacher and writer (here you can find his extraordinary work of which I have already done a review) is developing a didactics of the discipline of journalism completely innovative, taking as a main concept the idea of teaching new journalists to produce content and publishing products for the world of news with the instruments of mobile in order to allocate their work to all types of platforms. The heart of the interview? There is a way to be a journalist without necessarily going through publishers.

The smartphone remains in the center.

In the long chat that you can find below, Adornato has addressed some central themes of the new way of working that journalists must have today. “We teach our youngs how to manage a story – told Adornato – for all possible platforms, because now this is our job: journalists must be able to dialogue with readers and create trust and credibility. In the past was our target to tell you what was the news of the day. Now journalism is a conversation and the young journalist must be aware of this and of course we do this educational path by keeping the smartphone at the center of journalist’s work. Smartphone is the central tool of journalist work now “.

Create a community to live without a publisher.

“Knowing how to create a community is also to know how to create trust: this is the first step – underlined Adornato – to be recognized as journalists-source of authoritative and direct information. All if you are able to create a community that follows us around a determined topic. We impose this step on our students, that is to say that they create their own niche to be followed and recognized, to become a brand of the specific field in which they must specialize. This serves to publish without needing a publisher, but also to be spotted by publishers who want to ‘take’ a particular journalist for the community that he has and that follows him “. The rest? Enjoy the chat.
