Video with drones: I am still in the middle of the paperwork.

I checked now and I can say: from a few hours, just yesterday, I’m a Sapr Operator (be careful, never say you’re a pilot because those who have taken the license get angry) with my Spark officially registered at the National Agency of Civil Aviation under the name of “Davide2012”.

Well, I’m very happy, even if the papers are not finished. Becoming a flight operator with drones is complicated, but I would be amazed if it were not so since you have in your hands an aircraft that can cause a lot of damage if you do not know how to use it properly and if you do not respect the rules of flight.

I’m continuing to look around me.

My entry into the world of drones is an entrance full of enthusiasm and sense of wonder for the potential of these technological devices that, at the price of a few hundred euros, offer crazy qualities for the production of images. I read websites, looked at articles, admired many videos, but I immediately noticed that there is a persistent vice in the videography of drones.

Do you want to know which one? The means with which the images are made, given the great evocative power of the visual portraits he manages to do, becomes the end of an entire video. I have seen dozens and dozens of videos all approved in the replication of very high images, beautiful landscapes, beautiful and double-legged contexts with the artificial visual replication of an ancestral desire of man. Which? But to fly, of course.

Tell me a story, what the heck!

I could not really find a video that told, through the images of the drone, a complete story. I could not figure out if there really is anyone who takes the drone (medium) to maximize a story (end) and does not make the drone itself the end of its visual history. The essence of mobile journalism is this: to valorize unusual means to write non-usual stories. Without ever making the vehicle too protagonist. From my first spectator excursions, therefore, the hair of the Icaro has been repeatedly smoothed in me, but I have never been told a complete story and made even more unique by the images shot by a drone.

I put myself at stake. I want to help the movement of Italian dronists to broaden the technical discourse to build avisual and creative grammar of videos with drones that, as I understand it, is missing. I really want ascents, descents, twists, circles, low and high sequence planes, vertical images and 360 degrees rounds to become a language that is grammatically coherent with that of the visual story and can be repeatable and insertable movements in a speech. We do not have to teach drones to show up, but to make videos with drones we have to teach their operators to write with drones as a pen to tell incredibles stories.

The apps do not have to take away the job.

Also in this case, as in all other hardware, editing apps do not have to take away editing and writing for images work  of a story. It’s another thing I do not like. Really negative. In short, the drone tool can not be made even more protagonist by the montages of the app of the manufacturers, which continue to make the instrument only the protagonist, removing even more autonomy to those who use it. There is a defect of form that must be repaired and is the absence of a visual grammar of the drone, a real alphabet of the video with drones. It’s time to build it.
