But mojo could be the answer

I’m working on a course that will tell everyone who participates in all the ways, tools, perspectives and opportunities for journalists who derive from mobile journalism and the professional use of mobile phones. It will be on 4 and 5 February 2019 to the Roman Press Association and will allow participants to understand how to get on the job market journalism or how to renew using that supertechnological gadget we have in our hands about 150 – 200 times a day.

A unique lab

For a journalist who wants to be on the market today will be a real unique 2-day workshop, during which you can develop your own professional project using a series of tools that start from the mobile phone and represent the modernization of a job, as that of the journalist, who most of the colleagues now plays losing money. Even before starting work. Do you want to know why? Now I mention it, but I will explain it to the course in detail, spreading also on the tools deriving from the smartphone and mobile content creation that can be useful to solve this problem that afflicts the journalist.

A really italian problem… or not?

The world of journalism goes according to canons given a long time. The publishing platforms have changed, but not the ways in which an Italian journalist works today. And he loses a bundle of money with every breath. Studying on “Blue Ocean Strategy” by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, I have been facilitated, thanks to their exercises, to recognize many problems of the workflow of the journalist. How do you find the news, how it is contacted by the editorial staff, how it searches, how it moves. All these operations are carried out in such a way as to have a great expenditure of time and therefore of money. It makes me think that it is a very Italian pretext, but it is not so because the way of working vertically (a customer calls me for a piece and I work on that until I gave it to him) is characteristic of the system everywhere. First mistake: the journalist works top-bottom-top (from the boss who commissions you, until the moment you send it to him), but he should work horizontally.

They pay you more if you don’t work

With the prices of the products (articles, videos, etc) you have to get yourself in the head that pay you more if you say “No, I do not work”. To be cost effective, you must always think about working for several clients at the same time, for different types of publishing products at the same time, going, finally, to put you on the market at different levels of stratification. You will tell me, difficult concept … I answer you with a very simple explanation. Photography of today’s journalist: phone call, “give me 30 lines”, go, listen, take notes, do interviews on the sidelines, at the limit register with a tape recorder, then take, sbobina, write, send. The smartphone is only for some pieces (at the limit is used to call or record audio). The smartphone, however, is blatantly left out of the opportunity to be a multimedia work machine that produces more results simultaneously and also serves as a connector to the outside, to the publication, to different customers for the same job in different forms. Reviewing the destination of costs, therefore, I can attack the market and make a minimum profitable the rates that I take.

This minimum reasoning on the journalist’s cost management is only the beginning of the techniques that can be developed thanks to the smartphone, but much more can be done.
